Carbonio Composites & Advanced Materials was created as a de-novo Tier-1 Supplier to the Automotive & Commercial Vehicle Industry. CCAM is purpose-built to meet the exacting current and future requirements of the ACVI OEMs.
The Core Demand Driver: Energy Efficiency, Electrification, Emissions
The 4'Es: Energy Efficiency. Electrification. Emissions. These are the new mantra of the Automotive and Commercial Vehicle Industry. They are driven by the irreversible dual requirement of (1) government regulation and (2) customer preferences.
In order to meet the requirements of the 4'Es, the ACVI will need to adopt new lightweight materials at a scale and cost point that has not yet been seen in the industry. To be sure, lightweight materials such as carbon composites, aluminium and titanium have been present in the very high end luxury segment of the ACVI where costs were not the key driver.
However, the existing price points have hindered the adoption of lightweight materials in mass consumer vehicles and commercial vehicles,
Recognising the Supply & Delivery Gap:
The co-founders of CCAM, Oliver Buchwald and Maria Munoz Medrano met while working within the Truck division at Daimler AG, one of the leading producers of premium cars and the world's largest manufacturer of commercial vehicles. Oliver focused on BIW & suspensions, and Maria specialised in R&D parts developed using Carbon Fiber Reinforced Parts (CFRP).
During this process, they recognised that the Automotive supply chain was very limited in being able to meet the emerging technical and economic performance required, especially at the scale and price points needed to ensure large scale adoption. They recognised that a new entity needed to be created to meet this supply & delivery gap.
Creation of CCAM
CCAM was created in a partnership with CrystalPoint Partners, an investment firm specialised in esoteric and special situations. CrystalPoint recognised the need identified, and worked with the founding team to create CCAM.
